Weight gain and bipolar disorder meds

Is there a medication for bipolar disorder that won’t cause weight gain?
The majority of  medications that are used to treat BPD cause weight gain. The only ones that do not cause significant weight gain are the anticonvulsants, but they are not always effective. In addition, the anticonvulsants have other adverse effects like sedation, excess fatigue and drowsiness. BPD is a very difficult disorder to treat because the patients are often non compliant and have other associated disorders. My advice is take the drug given to you by your doctor and if it works, stay with it. In many cases, what works in one patient does not mean it will work for you.
There is no way around the side effects of antipsychotics; every single medication used to treat mood and behavior disorders is associated with side effects. To avoid weight gain, eat less and walk more.

Seroquel for bipolar disorder

I have been prescribed seroquel for my bipolar disorder. Is this drug effective?
In the last decade, several atypical antipsychotics like seroquel have been used to treat bipolar disorder. These drugs are very effective for mood stabilization. These agents also dampen the extremes of mania or depression. Other drugs in the same class include risperidone, aripiprazole and ziprasidone. All of them are equally effective.  the major problem with these drugs is the side effects like weight gain and loss of libido.

Lithium and alcohol

I am on lithium for my bipolar disorder, can I drink alcohol?
You can drink anything you want, even piss. But I should I warn you,  Lithium is not the medication you want to mess around with. The drug is very finicky and can cause serious side effects. I highly recommend you not take alcohol when you are on lithium. Dehydration can easily lead to toxicity of lithium. The adverse effects of lithium are progressive and not reversible. If you want to drink alcohol, then you better tell your doctor to start you on some other medication for your BPD. Lithium is a great drug but it can easily cause severe adverse effects if you fool around with it.

Herbs for hair growth

What are the common herbs touted to help hair growth?

He Shou Wu also known as Fo Ti is widely sold in many health food stores. It is chiefly used by many Orientals to increase hair growth. As far as clinical evidence is concerned, this herb is a big rip off. There is zero evidence that it can even grow one single hair strand, not even on the arse.

Pygeum (Pygeum Africanum) is another herb that is hyped up to grow hair. The vendors of this herb recommend a pill a day and claim that hair loss can be prevented. Even though it has been widely used in china, there is no clinical evidence or even one scientific study to show that it works.

Panax Ginseng is the most well known herb and widely sold for the treatment of many medical disorders including hair loss. The vendors of this herb claim that Panax ginseng increases blood supply to the scalp and increase nutrition to the scalp. There is a lot of publicity given to this herbs ability to increase hair growth- in reality, it does absolutely nothing.

Panax ginseng is found in many hair tonics and shampoos manufactured in Asia. For the consumer, Panax ginseng grows as much hair on the scalp, that you would get by washing your hair with urine.

Other herbs commonly sold for hair growth in health food stores include Dong Quai (Chinese Angelica), Stinging nettles, Saw palmetto, gingko Biloba, and green tea extracts. Each and every one of these herbs is hyped up to grow hair back in a few weeks. Ads like having a full head of hair with herbs are common

So what about the real facts?

There is not one individual in the entire universe that has grown hair after using these herbal products. At the very best, a few individuals have grown 1-2 strands of hair on their pubis or the anal area. There is no clinical study showing that use of such herbal products can grow hair. In all cases, herbs are just as useless as all the drugs for hair growth. In simple words, herbs and drugs for hair growth should be considered a scam, until proven otherwise.

For all consumers, remember there is no drug or herb that will bring back your hair. If you have no money and no hair, learn to live with a bald head or wear a hat. For those who have money and no hair, try getting hair transplant- expensive, painful and sometimes works.

Finally, in the end, remember, it is not what is on your scalp that is important. But what is in-between your ears (at least this is what some women who love bald men claim).

What causes bed wetting?

What causes bed wetting at night?
Bed wetting is a complex issue in the adult and can have multiple causes. Unlike children, some adults with bed wetting also have a problem with day time wetting. There is some evidence that adult bed wetting may have a genetic link. If one has either one or both parents who have had a problem with bed wetting, the chances are much higher that you will also be affected with this problem.
In some adults the hormone that controls urine production (ADH) may be absent or secreted in low amounts. Absence of the hormone ADH causes the kidney to constantly pass urine in the bladder. Other individuals may have a very sensitive bladder. As soon as the bladder starts to fill with urine, it sends signals to the brain to empty it. This leads to frequent urination and bed wetting.
There are other individuals who have been involved in trauma and develop over activity of the bladder muscle. This causes the bladder to spontaneously contract and empty the bladder. Two substances which are commonly found to increased bladder over activity are caffeine and alcohol.
Medications like the diuretics for the treatment of blood pressure can also cause bladder muscle over activity and lead to spontaneous passage of urine.
Other medications that can lead to bedtime wetting include the anti-psychotics like risperidone and thioridazine.
Other common causes of secondary enuresis may include diabetes mellitus, urinary tract infections, kidney stones, neurological disorders (like stroke), anatomical abnormalities of the bladder or ureter, prostate cancer, benign prostatic hypertrophy and obstructive sleep apnea.  Adult bed wetting in rare circumstances can also be caused by emotional stress or severe anxiety.
Unlike children, adults with bed wetting need a thorough examination to rule out a cause which can be treated.

How common is bed wetting in adults?

Bed Wetting in Adults
There are at least 2-4 percent of adults who involuntary void urine during sleep. These numbers are a gross under estimate because many adults do not brag about peeing in bed at night. Nocturnal enuresis (Bedwetting) is the unintentional urination that occurs at night. Nocturnal bed wetting in adults is generally classified into two categories- primary and secondary.
With primary nocturnal bed wetting, the condition most likely starts in childhood and progresses into adulthood. In these individuals, nocturnal enuresis is not a daily occurrence but occurs at least 1-4 times every few months.
The secondary onset bed wetting almost always starts off at an older age; the individual may have had no problem in childhood but suddenly the bed wetting starts in adulthood. In some cases, the child may have bed wetting and achieved bladder control but relapses later in adulthood.
Bed wetting is not a recent problem in humans; it has been reported in the archives as early as 1500 BC. Although much is known about bed wetting in the child, the problem has been less studied in the adult.

Imipramine for bed wetting

How long is one treated with imipramine for bedwetting?

The dose of imipramine is based on the body weight. The drug is also given to adult patients with bed wetting but only if there is no evidence of any heart problems like congestive heart failure, history of palpitation or strokes. Because the drug can lower seizure threshold, it is usually not given to patients with such a history.

Tofranil is available as tablets of 10 mg, 25 mg and 50 mg.

In most cases, patients are treated for 3-6 months and then the drug is weaned slowly by decreasing the dosage every few weeks. Relapses are quite common when the drug is discontinued. Even though tofranil is widely prescribed with modest results, it frequently has to be discontinued because of persistent side effects.

Medications for bedwetting

What types of medications are used to treat bedwetting?
Among the drugs, imipramine (tofranil) is often used to treat both children and adults with enuresis. The drug goes by several names including Imiprex, tofranil and Sermonil. Imipramine is a good drug for the treatment of depression, various pain syndromes, insomnia and neuropathy. Tofranil has been used to treat enuresis for more than 3 decades.

The lowest dosage of Tofranil is usually administered and the response to bed wetting is observed. Most people begin to see a response in a few days. The dose is usually increased if no response is seen after 2 weeks. The initial success rates of tofranil are low. Only 10%-20% of children and about 25% of adults respond to this therapy. However, for some unknown reason with continued long-term treatment, its effectiveness disappears.

Bed wetting

Is bedwetting a common problem in children?
There are at least 5-7 million children who have problems with bed wetting, also known as enuresis. These numbers are an underestimate because many more children have not had the diagnosis because of fear or embarrassment. This social problem is quite difficult to treat. Over the years many types of non-medical and medical treatments have been approved for enuresis. There is no medication that is 100% effective or can cure enuresis.

All medications currently used to treat enuresis only work for a short time and many have unpleasant side effects. Medications are not first line of therapy for bed wetting. In most cases medications are only started after behavior therapy and alarms have failed.

High blood pressure in one arm

Why is the blood pressure slightly up in my right arm compared to the left arm?
Mild variations in BP are very common between the two arms. Usually the difference is less than 10 mmHg. I would not worry about it. In rare cases, the BP may be elevated in the left arm, and a disorder known aortic coarctation may be responsible. This disorder is usually identified in infancy or childhood. If the blood pressure is significantly low in one arm, it maybe due to a block in the blood vessel which runs underneath the collar bone. In such cases, you may need to see a surgeon- I mean a good surgeon. Most surgeons do not have a clue how to fix this disorder (thoracic outlet syndrome) and I would be very careful when it comes to selecting a surgeon.

Itchy rash

Recently I was hiking and got an allergic reaction from a plant. Now I have a very itchy rash and redness on my hand. Is there something I can use which is cheap?
You may have developed some sort of dermatitis or an allergic reaction. Get some over the counter hydrocortisone. Try it for several days and it should take the itch away in a matter of hours. In some cases, a more potent steroid like betamethasone may be required. However, hydrocortisone should do it in most cases. Try it before you see any doctor because they will charge you hundreds of dollars for some BS advice.

Ciclopirox for my nail fungus

I have been prescribed ciclopirox for a fungal nail infection but it is very expensive. Is there an alternative medication?
There is a generic version available just ask your doctor. It is called Penlac. Sorry to tell you but Penlac is a complete waste of your money. I definitely do not recommend it. It is often prescribed for finger and toe nail infections. Does jack shit. You can apply it all your life and nothing will happen. For nail infections, you either need to get the nail removed or take a pill for 6-12 months. Removing the nail is cheaper and the cure is immediate.

Diaper rash

My father has a diaper rash and the doctor thinks it is fungus. Can you recommend a treatment?
You may try Micalog. It is a combination of a steroid and a topical antifungal agent. It is very effective. However, you must keep the area clean and dry. Keep the entire area open to air for a few days and avoid tight fitting diapers or undergarments. This is vital. Apply a barrier cream like petrolatum jelly to minimize urine and fecal contact with skin. These basic maneuvers will help get rid of the fungus.

Fungal infection of scalp

Recently I got diagnosed with a fungal infection of my scalp. My doctor prescribed me a topical antifungal agent. However, I have not seen any response.  Does this thing work?
What you have is tinea capitis. Your doctor is clueless. For tinea capitis, no topical medications work. You need to take something by mouth. There are some effective antifungal medications. Tell your doctor that you want a prescription for griseofulvin. It has the ability to penetrate the hair and keratin and will quickly get rid of the fungus.  You will need treatment for 4-6 weeks. There are also some other mediations, like fluconazole but these are expensive. Try griseofulvin it is cheap and effective.
Please dump your doctor. Shit- if your doctor does not know how to treat a simple fungal infection then it is unlikely that he/she knows anything useful.

Jock itch in a female

I am a 33 year old female and relatively healthy. Recently I have developed a terrible itch in my groin. The entire area is raw and beefy red, especially the groin crease. What do you think it is?
Most likely jock itch. The first thing to do is keep the area clean and dry. There are several over counter antifungal creams and powders to treat jock itch. I suggest you apply a powder to maintain the dryness. Also, wear cotton undergarments. In addition, avoid wearing tight jeans or panties. The humidity and wetness are two common causes of jock itch. Shave off any hair and keep the area clean. You will have relief within 12 hours after applying the powder.

Fungal infection of my toe nail

I have had a fungus infection of my toenails for a long time. My doctor had tried many medications but nothing has worked. Any suggestions?
Fungal infections of the nails can be difficult to treat with medications. The medications simply are not able to penetrate the nail, where the fungus resides. Most frequently you need medications for 12 months. However, this is a waste of time and only done by ignorant doctors. What you need is to get the nail taken out-completely. Nail removal is a short procedure, relatively painless and can be done in the doctor's office.
I suggest you see a surgeon for this, as most primary care doctors know jack shit about how to remove a toe nail or numb the toe. The cure is immediate and you will have a new nail, which is clear of infection. Good luck

Treatment for bacterial vaginosis

I recently was tested positive for bacterial vaginosis. Does my boyfriend need to be treated at the same time?

No, bacterial vaginosis is not considered to be a sexually transmitted disorder. Your boyfriend does not require treatment. The treatment for you is an antibiotic called metronidazole- it is very safe and works well.

Bacterial vaginosis

I was recently diagnosed with bacterial vaginosis. Is this considered to be a sexually transmitted disorder?

Bacterial vaginosis is somewhat of a mystery. It is common cause of symptoms in woman, but no one can definitely say if this is sexually acquired. Many women who have not had oral, vaginal or anal  sex do test positive and many women who have sex, are negative. At the moment, the current belief is that it is not a sexually transmitted disorder. The good thing is that it can be easily diagnosed and treated.

Testing for chlamydia

How do I know if I have Chlamydia? I am a 22-year-old female and have met a new boyfriend but have not undertaken any precautions to prevent STDs.

Chlamydia is a very common STD and can infect both the male and female. If not treated, it can lead to damage of your sexual organs. The organism is acquired during anal, vaginal or oral sex. The major problem with Chlamydia is that in most cases there are no symptoms and many women are diagnosed late. Unlike other STDs, there is no discharge or systemic symptoms life fever or chills. Chlamydia infections are painless. If you think you have Chlamydia, see your doctor and get tested. Swabs are obtained from the vagina and sent to the lab. If positive, cure is very easy with medications. By the way, your partner should also be tested if you are positive.

Weight loss surgery for diabetes cure

Is it true that diabetes can be cured by weight loss surgery?

Please do not listen to this bullshit promoted by doctors who just want to scam patients. Sure, surgery can help you lose weight, but there is no guarantee of a cure. Hundreds of patients with diabetes have lost weight but the diabetes doesn’t completely disappear. It is just easier to control blood sugars when the weight is less. The surgery for weight loss is very high risk, costs thousands of dollars and you can even die during the procedure. Complications from weight loss surgery are often permanent and life threatening. The other thing of importance is that the weight loss from surgery is not sustained. If you do not change your lifestyle and eat less, you will be back to square one.

I definitely do not recommend weight loss surgery for cure of diabetes-it is nothing more than a scam by surgeons. I review several medical malpractice cases a week all over the country, and I can tell you, the complications are horrendous. So walk and eat less. It is safer and works. And you won’t need to spend your hard earned money to pay for the doctor’s expensive life style.

Dust particles in the eye

Sometimes I see tiny dust particles in my left eye. Is this something serious? I am only 33 years old.
These are called floaters and not dangerous. In most cases, this condition is harmless. In rare cases, the disorder may be associated with retinal detachment and you may have loss of vision. In that  case, an emergent visit to an eye doctor is recommended. However, for floaters which develop in the majority of people, there is nothing to worry about.

Treatment for alopecia areata

I am a 22-year-old male and recently I started to develop patches of hair loss on my face and scalp. My doctor said I had alopecia areata. Is this serious?
No, alopecia areata a very common disorder but unfortunately we know very little about it. The hair loss occurs in patches and unlike fungal  infections, there is no itch. The patches are circular and may spontaneously.
Some people believe that it may be related to stress. In any cases, before you start resorting to expensive treatments, do understand that the condition does resolve on its own. However, this may take 6-12 months. Some doctors advocate injections of steroid or application of steroids, but there is no proof that this works. Do not go for any exotic remedies for alopecia areata because most are scams. Some doctors even recommend used of potent immunosuppresive drugs, but this is a complete waste of money and designed to scam more money from patients.
Best advice, do not do anything if you have alopecia areata. Relax, avoid stress and cover the scalp or face with camouflage or wear a wig.

Viagra and BPH

I am a 61 year old male and have prostate hypertrophy. Is it safe for me to use Viagra?
Yes, it is perfectly safe. Viagra has been around for more than a decade and it is now considered to be a relatively safe medication. As long as you do not have serious heart disease, Viagra is safe.

Boobs in a man

I am a 55 year old male and was recently started on a medication for my high blood pressure. I now have grown decent size breasts. Is this related to my medication?
Gynecomastia or boobs can occur in men who take certain water pills. Spironolactone is a medication for control of blood pressure and is known to cause this problem. You should tell your doctor about it. You will need to stop the medication and take something else to control your blood pressure. Do not stop the medication without first speaking to your doctor. The boobs will disappear when the medication is stopped. However, I recommend that you stop drinking alcohol, as the condition may worsen. Do not be in a rush to see a surgeon to treat this condition, as in most cases it reverses by itself. The plastic surgeon will charge you thousands of dollars for a disorder that is reversible.

Gout pain

I have been told I have gout. Is there something I can take at home to prevent the pain in future?

Yes, have some NSAIDs handy in case the attack comes on again. Drugs like indomethacin can help relieve the pain within a few hours. Colchicine used to be a commonly used drug in the past, but has fallen out of favor. It is an effective drug but can cause profound episodes of diarrhea. If you have recurrent episodes of gout, you should be taking allopurinol.

Too much sex

Is too much sex good for you? I am a 22-year-old female and love it.

There is no good or bad about too much sex. If you like It, just enjoy it. There are reports that too much sex can make your skin feel smooth. However, in general, people who have too much sex generally feel young, energetic and happy.

Penis size

I have read that the penis size is related to the size of the shoe. Is this true?

Not, that is BS. There is no correlation of penile size with any structure in the human body. In fact, most large or bigger man, tend to have small size penis.

Sperm for depression

Is it true that swallowing sperm can boost your mood?

No it does no such thing. There was a rubbish study in the past, which mentioned that some women who swallowed sperm felt enlightened and happy. The study is bogus because it only based this on a few women. There has been no study that has thoroughly looked at women who regularly swallow sperm and the affect on their mood. My advice is if you like to swallow, there is nothing wrong. If you hate to swallow spit it out. Sperm has as much antidepressant effect as drinking urine.

Swallowing semen

My boyfriend always wants me to give him oral sex and swallow his semen. But I hate swallowing semen. Is there any I can do to prevent swallowing?

Many women do not like swallowing semen but only do so to please their mate. My advice is that if you do not like to swallow semen, tell your partner. Next time, just spit it out and have lots of tissues nearby. Swallowing semen is not harmful but it may not be too palatable for some people.

Sexual intercourse and climax

I am a single female and my girlfriends are always telling me how long they have sexual intercourse with their boyfriend. Mine only last a few minutes. How long does intercourse usually last?

Do not let your girlfriends’ bullshit you. In many cases, the average time for intercourse to orgasm is just a few minutes. In some cases, it may last 10 minutes, but these are rare cases. So if your sexual intercourse lasts several minutes, you are in the average category.

The one thing women like is foreplay. However, men on the other hand prefer to have the actual intercourse and move on with life. And that varies from 3-10 minutes.

Creams to remove tattoos

Are there any methods to remove tattoos?

Tattoos have never been more popular than today. Millions of individuals are getting tattoos placed on spontaneous whims, only to regret it later. Tattoo insertion is relatively easy but having it removal is a lot harder. Over the years, tattoo removal parlors have flourished all over America. Numerous cosmetic surgeons claim that tattoo removal is big business. Many tattoo removal methods are available today and include excision of the tattoo, chemical peels, lasers, dermabrasion, intense pulsed light and topical creams. I should tell you that most of these methods are useless. Laser works for light colored tattoos but is prohibitively expensive. All the other methods are junk.

Can tattoos be removed with creams?

Tattoo removal has become a billion dollar business and topical creams have been postulated to remove tattoos. Tattoo removal creams have been around for decades with all sorts of claims of success. Some creams have names like TatBgone and Tattoo off are widely available. Just like weight loss products, the claims are typically made by the manufacturer that these wonder creams can remove not only tattoos but also acne and skin wrinkles. Everyday on the Internet there is a new tattoo removal cream ointment.

Hair loss treatment

Is there any treatment for hair loss?
Every single day there is an article on hair loss and how to get it back with drugs or herbs. First, the facts- Rogaine, propecia, and spironolactone are absolutely garbage. Even after 20 years of daily application of these drugs, one will never grow more than 1-5 hair strands. Hair once gone is never coming back (alopecia areata is an exception).

The alternative health care industry has been heavily marketing an assortment of herbs and natural products for hair growth. Astonishing claims have been made such as hair growth in a week and completely hair recovery in a few weeks. Just like the pharmaceutical products, herbs for hair growth do not come cheap. The same herb has a variable cost depending on where and from whom you buy it.

The hair growth industry is nothing more than a scam. If you hate being bold and have money, you may opt for hair transplantation. If you have no money and hate being bold, wear a wig or a hat. Remember it is not what is on top of your head that counts- it is what is in between your ears (at least this is what I say to myself)

Diagnosis of interstitial nephritis

How does one make a diagnosis if interstitial cystitis?
Unfortunately, the diagnosis of interstitial cystitis can be difficult. Many women go through useless tests because their physicians have no clue about this disorder. If you have been diagnosed with interstitial cystitis, you need to see a urologist. The ideal test for making a diagnosis of the disorder is cystoscopy. This involves general anesthesia and examining your bladder using a camera probe placed through the urethra. The bladder usually appears red, small and scarred. However, the findings at cystoscopy do not correlate with the symptoms that you may have. All other studies for investigating interstitial cystitis are a waste of money.

What is interstitial nephritis

What is interstitial cystitis?
Interstitial cystitis is a clinical disorder that is a puzzle to most doctors. It typically presents with day and night time urinary frequency, urgency and pelvic pain. No one knows why this condition occurs or how it causes the symptoms. There are no good treatments for it and even making the diagnosis can be a hassle. Women generally present with an increased urge to urinate and may have moderate to severe pain in the groin and anal area. Sometimes the condition disappears on it own  but often returns.
Most women go through months or years of delay before diagnosis is made. The problem appears to be with the bladder. The best people to look after this disorder are the urologists.

UTI and abdominal pain

Every time I get a  UTI, I develop an odd crampy pain like sensation in my lower abdomen. No over the counter pain medication helps? Any suggestions?
Bladder spasms are thought to be the cause of this painful sensations. Ask your doctor for phenazopyridine. You need to take it 3 times a day for no more than 2 days. It will change the color of   your urine but the pain relief will be instant.

Cranberry juice for UTI

Can I drink cranberry juice for my UTI?
Sure, you can drink anything you want. Hydration is a the key when treating a UTI. The extra fluid will hopefully dilute the bacteria and wash them out. There are a lot of reports indicating that cranberry juice may offer benefit to women with UTI. This benefit for some unknown reason is only seen in 30% of patients. In any case, cranberry juice is not harmful. A few studies report that daily drinking of cranberry juice can also reduce recurrent UTI. How cranberry juice works is not known but probably related to its acidity. In any case, the more fluid you drink the better you will feel.

Trichomonas treatment

I have been diagnosed with trichomonas infection and my doctor gave me a topical cream, I do not think it is working. Any suggestions?
Trichomonas is best treated with metronidazole. The drug is taken for 5 days. Some doctors do prescribe topical creams to be placed in the vagina but these products do not always work. The cure rate with topical products is very low. You need to take an oral pill.  In addition, for complete cure,  your sex partner also needs to be treated, otherwise he/she will be spreading the darn infection to others. Avoid sex until the drug therapy has been completed.

Diabetes and sweating

I am a type 2 diabetic and noticed that I have been sweating an excess amount on my hands. Is this due to my medications?

I doubt it is your medications. You have a condition called hyperhidrosis and it may be due to the diabetes. Excess sweating can be difficult to treat. No medications work, except for Botox. Surgery is done but only if the sweating is limited to your hands. I suggest you see a neurologist and determine the cause of sweating. I doubt adjusting the medication dose will help. In the mean time, use antiperspirants or deodorants.

New Diabetic Medications

I have been reading about the new medications for type 2 diabetes. Do you recommend them.
First, new is not always better. The pharmaceutical industry and the doctors are in the field of medicine to make money. So just because you get a newer drug does not mean it is more effective. In fact, we are now learning that many doctors work with pharmaceutical companies and never highlight the negative data. Therefore, if you are a diabetic, my best advice is to watch your diet, keep your weight down, do not smoke and exercise.
As far as medications are concerned, metformin is still the best. it is cheaper, effective and helps you lose weight. The drug has been around for 70 years and stood the test of time.

Zinc and diabetes

Can Zinc help lower my blood glucose? I have been reading a lot on Zinc and am confused.
Type 2 diabetes is associated with many long-term complications and the only way to prevent these are to ensure that your blood sugar is well controlled. Today, the treatments for type 2 diabetes includes medications, a change in diet and exercise. There is a lot of literature on Zinc and its miraculous properties. Zinc deficiency is very rare and usually only seen in ill hospitalized patients or those who are malnourished. In North America, Zinc deficiency is rare. Taking extra zinc supplement is waste of money. As far as diabetes is concerned, zinc has no affect on blood sugar.
Best advice take the medications prescribed by your doctor, lose weight, avoid excess sugar and exercise on a regular basis. Zinc is for people who are clueless about life and whine about everything on this planet.

Brain stimulation for depression

I have had depression for many years and have been thinking about transcranial magnetic stimulation. Do you have any thoughts?
In the last decade, doctors have been inserting electrodes in the brain for people with a variety of mental health disorders. The latest mental health disorder which is being treated with electrode stimulation of the brain is depression. The electrodes are placed in specific parts of the brain and stimulated at low or high frequencies. None of the surgeries are covered by medical insurance and surgery does have its own complications. So does this technique help?
Current analysis of the studies indicate that Transcranial magnetic stimulation for depression is just a little bit better than rubbish. The conclusion is that the treatment is only a choice for people who have failed all other treatments and have no other options left. However, you still need to have lots of money to undergo this surgery and some of the complications are worse than your depression-so think hard before you jump from the frying pain into the fire. Do not believe everything that doctors’ claim-medicine is after all a business.
