Does Trazodone work for depression?

My doctor has tried me on several antidepressants but none has worked. Now he has given me a script for trazodone. Is this a good drug?

Unfortunately, it may be that this is your only choice. Trazodone is a very old drug and rarely prescribed. There are many better and safer anti depressants available. The only advantage of trazodone is that it is cheaper. The drug has many side effects and it anti depressant effects are mild at best. The drug does interact with some foods (grapefruit juice). Other side effects include emotional lability with severe mood changes. Perhaps you should have a further discussion with your doctor about this drug but I do not recommend stopping it without first consulting with your doctor. It may be your only choice and worth trying before giving up on it.
