Treatment for alopecia areata

I am a 22-year-old male and recently I started to develop patches of hair loss on my face and scalp. My doctor said I had alopecia areata. Is this serious?
No, alopecia areata a very common disorder but unfortunately we know very little about it. The hair loss occurs in patches and unlike fungal  infections, there is no itch. The patches are circular and may spontaneously.
Some people believe that it may be related to stress. In any cases, before you start resorting to expensive treatments, do understand that the condition does resolve on its own. However, this may take 6-12 months. Some doctors advocate injections of steroid or application of steroids, but there is no proof that this works. Do not go for any exotic remedies for alopecia areata because most are scams. Some doctors even recommend used of potent immunosuppresive drugs, but this is a complete waste of money and designed to scam more money from patients.
Best advice, do not do anything if you have alopecia areata. Relax, avoid stress and cover the scalp or face with camouflage or wear a wig.
